Busy, busy, busy, with Ponoka asking for all kinds of info on Chris, prior to his departure to the Halvar Johnson Center in week to 10 days hopefully.
Chris has been all over the map the last while, getting his teeth cleaned at day surgery in the hospital by a wonderful dentist Dr. Shacklock. He went the extra mile to make sure everything was perfect only the hospital staff made for some weird moments as usual.
Then back to hospital the following week for a chest x-ray to confirm or rule out pneumonia it didn’t do either so blood work was done still inconclusive finally another chest x-ray a week later to confirm it probably was not there at all???
CT scan and additional blood work were done for Ponoka and have been sent off. Still waiting on the edge of our seats for a day to leave.
Pool therapy continues with no breaks, three times a week, it has been a wonderful thing, wish we knew about it months ago but the system will not tell you anything that may cost them money!!!!!!!
Regular physio is pretty sketchy since moving out of the hospital everything was promised to be the same or better but there is no recourse for the misinformation that gets you to move. (Live and learn when something is promised it needs to be in writing and signed by someone who actually has authority to sign!)
There is a tilt table at the facility and Chris is the only one there that uses it and yet he has only been on it twice in over a month. It remains locked up and out of touch for 98% of the time.
The same rehab doctor from the hospital that would not help or look at Chris feeling there was nothing to be done for him is now at this same place Chris is at. So I am not allowed to use the table for Chris either because the union does not want it being used with out one of it members being present or the doctor will not let it our down the hall a hundred feet.
It is very frustrating as I could have him up on it every day. It gets pretty depressing knowing all you can do, but are stopped by the system or archaic rules that are so out dated it is ridiculous.
Looking to do a fundraiser to help with the $26,000 for the hyperbaric chamber treatments.
ICBC refuses to help with any of that as well as acupuncture, shiatsu or anything they as “medical experts do not believe in”.
Still formulating a plan that will be in place when Chris returns from Ponoka. So that he will be able to slip right into the treatments he needs for healing, as all treatments and therapies will be our problem and concern, it will not happen if left to the system, as they will not help with any of them.
Living accommodations with support help have not been worked out as of yet, there are only so many hours in a day. So I hope most of you understand the delays in updating the blog. I do understand that it is the only means for a lot of you to keep up on what is going on with Chris’ newfound battle with life (or battle with the other end of the medical system).
I will be more diligent in updating in shorter and brief updates in a more timely fashion.
We continue to move forward it is just that some days take a bigger toll than others.
For those of you who know me, know that I will not be satisfied with just any outcome, I have a goal to reach in my mind and anything short of it will not do. Until then I will give my all to produce positive and lasting results.
Anyone who wants to come and see a pool session before Chris has to leave for Ponoka give me a call or leave a message through the blog or email drbigelow@shaw.ca I will give you the specific times. Days are Monday-afternoon, Wednesday –morning and Friday-afternoon.
Thanks again for your support and understanding and more important your concern and good wishes for Christopher. I know how much it means to him to have family and friends close, as it was those very things that made him come home.
Any new stories or therapies/research that you hear of, I would appreciate you dropping me a line so as I could follow up and do a little more research into it to see if Chris may benefit from it.
Thank you
Kevin
Chris' room has changed to 1417c same floor and area Ivydale.
