This letter was in response to several sent and no answer or response back. Tell me again why we need to have politicians. Over paid under worker and don't give a damn about anything except themselves or the party they represent. It would be so wonderful to meet an MLA who really cared???
I have to wonder with Falcon's uncaring attitude and oblivious disregard to the citizens of this Province and his own constituents. Why an apparently smart man can not fix the chaos and waste in his own ministry, and make informed decisions instead of having them made for him.
Dear Minister Falcon,
On Friday, January 22nd your wife gave birth to your first daughter. Congratulations on this incredible moment in your life.
You may be wondering what your new daughter has to do with Dr. Christopher Bigelow. To me it is simple. I am hoping by you experiencing this miracle of creating life, it will be the catalyst for a change in how you lead this Province as our health minister. To lead not just by words, but by actions. To not only save lives, but to fulfill lives. To help those that one day may have helped you or yours.
I have read many articles about your family and it’s connection to the health sector. Your mother was a nurse at St. Paul’s Hospital for 30 years. Your dad had a long term degenerative illness, which immobilized him completely and required enormous amounts of drugs and care. But the story that surprised me the most was of your brother Greg and how closely it relates to Dr. Christopher Bigelow. Your brother sustained a severe head injury when he was knocked off his horse in 1986. He was given drugs to treat the swelling in his brain and he had a severe reaction to these drugs which essentially cause his body to burn form the inside out. Ultimately, he died shortly after from this accident and the complications from brain injury he sustained.
I can only assume that with these experiences you have felt every emotion, whether be frustration, hope, sadness and sheer determination to continue the fight for life, just as the Bigelow family has these past 2+ years.
Or maybe you haven’t.
Maybe you were okay with your brother and father having only what was available here – and not reaching for what was possible – over there. Maybe you were told there was nothing more that could be done for them and accepting that answer, instead of putting up the fight they both deserved. Or maybe you were too young to know that when it comes to family and health, never take no as an answer and that every life is worth fighting for.
There is no comparative alternative for Dr. Christopher Bigelow in the province of British Columbia and that is why his family has done all the work to get him to the Halvar Johnson Centre for Brain Injury in Ponoka, Alberta. Your decision to deny Dr. Christopher Bigelow’s extension disappoints me not only as a resident of West Vancouver (the city you grew up in), a born and raised citizen of this province and country, but most of all it disappoints me and my belief in the human spirit.
“If a man be gracious and courteous to strangers, it shows he is a citizen of the world, and that his heart is no island cut off from other lands, but a continent that joins to them.” Francis Bacon
Your actions as minister of health in this province and in particular your decisions in relation to Dr. Christopher Bigelow show that you are not a true citizen or leader of this province. You have left his family stranded on this island with bureaucratic road blocks and you have shown that you have no heart for those you serve.
I hope you reconsider your decision and prove to the residents of BC that the people we put in place to serve us really have our best interests at heart.
I wish your new daughter good health and luck in this great big world of ours. I hope she never experiences what Dr. Christopher Bigelow has, as it seems her father wouldn’t do the right thing for her either.
Sincerely,
Kirsty
Chris was very badly injured in a car accident on November 3, 2007. This site I hope will keep track and update all progress until we have Chris back to where he can update you himself. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. Kevin

Hello again,
While the news and the information are fast and furious, it seems the government is caught in its own hype scrambling like crazy to put together a package to bring Christopher back.
Even though the director of the acquired brain injury unit at Surrey admits there's not enough funding or a place in the program for Chris, they are suggesting that he go to an extended care home that has a nice name. Nowhere is there talk of help to get us to our goal of getting the house and altering it to get Chris home, in fact the people at Fraser health were not informed by the health ministry of his long term plan. Nor is there any help from ICBC or the Province while they collect medical info on Chris without our knowledge.
The suggestion was there's a place called Connect that I CBC and the brain injury unit uses to house people but it still was an extended care facility they have no rehabilitation department or staff members other than an OT part-time.
I've been asked to give them permission to talk to the people in Ponoka even though the information that they're asking has been sent three times, the care plan, the rehab plan, nursing plan all is in their hands and yet when I get a call to answer questions nobody has read this plan.
Most of the people in Ponoka are tired of dealing with the government that can't tie its own shoelaces, I hope it doesn't affect future people coming from BC, it really is disheartening that the government has waited to give Fraser health two weeks’ notice when they realized that Dr. Diggle and I were not going to be the ones to arrange Chris’ coming home, you would think the health service it signed an agreement to send one of their residence to another province would know the terms of that agreement.
So now it would seem everyone in Fraser health is in panic mode because Chris would have to come back to an acute care bed costing an incredible amount.
My biggest fears are that this knee-jerk reaction without looking at the facts without looking all things that everybody that works at Fraser health knows does not exist are going to try and put together a piece meal program. It’s been admitted that there's not enough funds for the people/therapists needed, they will do the best they can.
Of course I've been through this before while dad was in the hospital, that time Christopher was there to oversee the screw-ups. We are expected to lower or standards because of claims of no money? Tell me how much money has come from nowhere over the last 6-7 years, funds or no funds allotted we are still human beings.
I'm still wondering about the comment Health Minister Falcon sent out to everybody, ( referring to the Halvar Jonson Center) that we have facilities like this in BC, because not only can I not find them anywhere none of the employee’s of the health ministry can find them either.
When will we hold these politicians accountable for their off the cuff comments such as the statement made “this is a medical decision and we will follow the advice of Christopher's doctors in Alberta and BC. I guess the proof is in their action, they paid no attention to these letters and recommendations at all and now are scrambling to try to cover and make do hoping the situation will go away.
Dr. Diggle’s letter to the ministry of health and then followed with the letter from the ministry of health back to Dr. Diggle. The letter I never was given a copy of by the ministry, but it was sent to the defence attorney.

RE: Bigelow, Chris
Dear Ms. Emerson,
I have reviewed the progress notes and letters supplied to me by doctors Rosenkrantz and Dr. Gray of the Ponoka facility currently housing Dr. Bigelow. Their assessments and those of their allied health colleagues have been detailed and comprehensive.
I would recommend the following:
1) That Dr. Bigelow be repatriated to British Columbia provided a comparable level of rehabilitation can be maintained in his accepting facility.
Rationale for this recommendation: Dr. Gray highlights the Dr. Bigelow has been receiving active physiotherapy, but has entered into maintenance phase of rehabilitation. The specific type of rehabilitation being offered is not specific to the facility he is currently housed in, and should be able to be offered it in British Columbia. The duration and frequency of his rehabilitation should not be fundamentally altered on his return to British Columbia to prevent re-emergence of contracture, and a stimulating environment should be maintained.
2) Ideally, this patient should be repatriated directly to his home with appropriate supports to maintain his maintenance rehabilitation program. The team would consist of a blend of family, support staff, and rehabilitation staff. The patient's family is eager to have this as the outcome, and I agree this would be an ideal situation for Chris provided adequate support systems in place to maintain the rehabilitation program. This patient's family has apparently been trying to put supports into place to achieve this goal.
3) Finally, if this patient could not be repatriated directly to home in a timely fashion, he should be repatriated to a facility with a rehabilitation physiotherapist and support staff skilled, structured, and able to provide a comparable regimen to the regimen that Chris is currently receiving. His current regimen is attached.

Hey everyone,
It has been an unbelievable day trying to fit it all in I am not going to write tonight. Just to inform everyone there will be an update on Tuesday January 26, 2010.
I don't know if it will be on the morning news, but will be on the evening news in Vancouver and Edmonton.
The CBC will look at doing an update later in the week.
I think Neal Hall from the Vancouver Sun will be writing an update as well.
The Ponoka news will print an update on Wednesday, January 27, 2010.
The Cloverdale local paper is over worker and is going to try to do one within the next week.
After airing if we can generate as many letters to the health minister
Kevin Falcon, kevin.falcon.mla@leg.bc.ca
Premier Gordon Campbell, gordon.campbell.mla@leg.bc.ca
Adrian Dix the health critic, adrian.dix.mla@leg.bc.ca
Carole James leader of the opposition, carole.james.mla@leg.bc.ca
Please remember power in numbers we need everyone to spread the word, at work, at school, at play, while shopping, while at a sporting event whether it’s the kids or your own. Please let’s make this big enough that it cannot be ignored.
I will post the letter contents tomorrow morning with Dr D’s second letter because they could not read the first, and the Health Ministries response to that letter, along with the underhanded tactics being used.
Thank you all so much for your support,
Kevin

Good morning,
The response from the ministry regarding the order to bring Chris home and stating that with all the work that will be required by Dr Bigelows family and Dr. D, he should start making the arrangements to bring him back to BC, they go on to say they will allow us until February 15, 2010 allowing us 3 1/2 weeks to make it all happen.
I will elaborate more on this once I have the original report forwarded to the ministry of health that was written after consultation with both the Alberta doctor, BC doctor and Christopher's physio therapist.
I can tell you that the response from the ministry was never sent to me, just to Dr D. I had to call Dr D. to get a copy.
But they went out and forwarded copies to the defence attorney for the province who is defending them in this case.
I could be wrong but I am sure the minister of health told all including family members he responded to that he could not share any information with them as it was confidential.
But apparently informing the defence attorney and not the family is OK. Makes you wonder how many cases involving the government/ICBC are sharing confidential information. With that said how does this not jeopardise any cases or actions they are involved in.
More of a dictatorship than I thought possible, if the minister of health is Ok with it, the Premier and possibly the minister of ICBC is ok with it too.
So the way I see it if you are injured in our province the ministries involved share all your information without your knowledge and effectively alter the outcome of the trial, is this justice in our great country of Canada ? Pretty hard to deny when you are caught with your fingers all over and in the cookie jar!
Strange how a relatively ordinary person (most politicians) suddenly transferred to position of power, often leads them to exaggerate and prevaricate, all in the name of a supposedly greater good and sometimes just because they feel their position allows this.
I am still waiting on the last letter before I can tell you more regarding the ministries latest decision. The decision that was made was done without referring to the medical and professional advice of Christopher’s doctors in Alberta and BC. More like it was written before the last meeting took place, they just held it and extra week before sending it only to Dr. D, oh and of course the defence attorney circumventing the system because we all know that if you are in government the current laws do not apply to you. Makes me wonder even more was this so he could share with the other defendants lawyers? What is even more disturbing is that the government controls the courts and the archaic laws that still exist in personal injury.
With a little more work we may be able to do a news update to the antics of our health minister’s refusal to step in and make it right.
Hope to have updates on the rest by the end of today.
Bye for now,
Kevin

Hey everyone,
I am sorry for the sketchy details but that’s how they are being released to me.
I am waiting for Dr D’s letter to the ministry before I share any details; I want to be accurate, not off the cuff as the ministry has become well practised in.
The one sure thing is the health ministry has given us and Dr D, is until February 15, 2010 to make all arrangements for his return home and responsible all therapies?
I have not been able to locate a name from the BC government, which has stopped all news cameras and reporters from all Alberta Health Services sites when it applies to Christopher or me.
If you are allowed to use your position and power given you by the people, to control access, then I guess the rational is, if we just block their access to the media the people will never find out how crooked and underhanded we really are.
I could write on but I would be here until tomorrow. I will try to write a brief update once I have the missing letter and have all the pieces together.
If you feel as strong as we do, please write the minister of health directly and copy the Premier, Mr Dix health critic, Carole James leader of the NDP and all the news papers in your area as well as Christopher's and Mr falcon's own local paper

Here is a letter that Christopher's sister has sent to the minister of health.
Dear Mr. Falcon,
I am writing to you in regards to my brother, Dr. Christopher Bigelow. I know that you have received many, many letters/emails from my family members, friends, co-workers, extended family, friends of friends and many others whom I, nor my family don't even know but because they have heard about my brother and what is going on here in BC-their very own province and home and they have a heart and a conscious, they want to help. Why can't you do the same??? Why are you making this so difficult for my family? We have already been through enough and yet it continues. We just want to get my brother the help he deserves. Is it so hard for you to understand? I guess if this was you or one of your family member’s maybe you would think twice about what you were doing or rather you wouldn't have to think twice as it would already be done!
I find it pretty sad that we have to beg for help in our own province. We are residence of BC, we are tax payers and for what??? So much for our health care-what CARE???
If you were to go onto the CBC website and read the story and comments, you would see how many others have been affected by a brain injury and have had no help. They just didn't do anything as they thought that was that! HOW SAD AND DISTURBING. I had no idea that this was how we treat people here in BC?
My brother Chris has a 4 year old nephew Kylan and a 9 month old niece Gwen. Kylan is waiting for his uncle to get better so he can play hockey with him once again. And Gwen is waiting for her uncle to hold her in his arms and give her a big hug! I don't want to disappoint them and neither does Chris. Chris is trying his hardest with therapy in Ponoka, AB to accomplish this-PLEASE DON'T LET THEM ALL DOWN. These things are possible with continued therapy.
I know you have replied to some people who have written you and said "I can assure you that any decision about provincial funding for medical treatment at the Centre in Alberta will be directed by the medical recommendations from the attending specialist(s) at the Centre and the specialist(s) in British Columbia." So where do we go from here as you have not delivered what you promised?
I honestly hope that you read this thoroughly and think about what is going on and make some changes.
We need a facility and better care (therapists) in BC for all in this situation.
Please make me proud to be a BC resident. And stand up for my province because I'm sure not feeling that way these days.
I love my brother very much and I'm sure you would do the same for your family!
Thank you,
Shelley Bigelow

Brief history of Mr Falcon:
Hon. Kevin Falcon was appointed as Minister of Health Services on June 10, 2009
He previously served as Minister of Transportation since January 26, 2004
Minister Falcon's leadership recently earned him recognition in Vancouver Magazine’s annual ranking of the city’s 50 most influential leaders.
Before his election to the Legislative Assembly in 2001, he was president of Access Group, a corporate communications firm he founded in 1998. He has also worked in the real estate development industry and was vice-president of Northwest Investment Properties. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University, and his real estate education at the University of British Columbia.
Look carefully, he was highways minister responsible for the very highway Christopher was injured on. Now he is Health minister and directly responsible for holding back access and refusing services needed by Christopher to heal and move forward.
Also owned a communications firm, but took office and forgot how to talk?
Below are some quotes from the minister’s web page;
“Our continued commitment to improving access and reducing wait times in all areas of health care is showing results”.....But not for Brain Injury
“We are committed to providing British Columbians in rural and northern communities with the health services they need”.
“Our government has made record levels of investment in our public health care system, strengthened the system through innovation, and brought forward new treatments and services to British Columbians throughout the province”. .......But not for Brain Injury
The Ministry of Health Services has overall responsibility for ensuring that quality, appropriate and timely health services are available to all British Columbians. The B.C. health system is one of our most valued social programs — virtually every person in the province will access some level of health care or health service during their lives. Good health is a fundamental building block of a happy and productive life.
Unless you sustain a Brain Injury
The Ministry of Health Services works collaboratively with the Ministry of Healthy Living and Sport to guide and enhance the Province’s health services to ensure British Columbians are supported in their efforts to maintain and improve their health. The Ministry works with health authorities, care providers, agencies and other groups to provide access to care. The Ministry provides leadership, direction and support to these service delivery partners and sets province-wide goals, standards and expectations for health service delivery by health authorities. ......But not for Brain Injury
All of this could apply, if you can fight and stay alive long enough to access any of it.
Can you believe it, if so; get in line because I am sure all those Olympic tickets bought with our tax dollars are for you. If you don’t get one feel assured that those who use them will invest in our well being!
Update once I have the letter, we will be updating the news stations again next week. Unless they try to stop us again!

Hi all,
I got a copy of a fax to Dr Diggle giving us 1 month extension, which with all the confusion and not talking, have decided to reword it all again into even more propaganda . Now making it Dr. D's responsibility to bring him home to what???????????.
Again no answers. Will fill in later got to get on the phone, put my life on hold and drop everything that I was currently working on with the government. They just keep me running in circles so no one catches on to the spin they are doing to avoid the situation at hand. They think they can make black look bright red and white look bright yellow if they delay and keep throwing paper at it and plead ignorance.
No wonder government cost so much and is so ineffective, what a waste of my precious time with Christopher!
Thanks talk later,
Kevin

Hello,
Again the day has come and gone with still no word from our ministry of health?????
Chris on the other hand had a good day with a long pool session and stretching. Planning on a relaxing afternoon but ended up with an extra physio session that has really wiped him out but he will have the weekend to recoup. So as I leave today he is sound asleep not knowing of any of the turmoil and unrest that is going on around him, probably better that way. This way every day is a new day of opportunity and possibilities.
Again thanks to all of you for checking diligently and sending all your positive thoughts they are greatly appreciated.
Until Monday or if I hear something sooner,
Bye for now,
Kevin

Still no word guys, I cannot even find words to express my disgust in the delaying tactics. Do they think they are negotiating with a world power? It just blows my mind how arrogant and non- caring the government really is. They can make false statements, issue releases that have no truth and hide every chance they get so they do not have to face the truth.
It took less than two hours on November 27, 2009 for them to reach their last decision to cancel Chris' funding. Even with all the material before them. It would seem they did not get the support they wanted.
Now I know why people would go on stress leave and not be able to work.
Is it really fair?
Hopefully we will get a positive response tomorrow.
Good night,
Kevin

Hello all,
Still no word, I am still on edge, can't for the life of me figure out what could take a bunch of educated adults running a section of government so long to figure out what is right, even when they are told by people holding degree's and expert knowledge in the field in question. As well as being the treating medical team for the last 10 plus months?
If they are trying my nerves they have succeeded if they are trying to deter and wear me down that will never happen.
Some more reading if you would like, the link will take you to a story done by the local paper. Chris has an amazing amount of support here in Ponoka so it was a great thing for me to read.

Hello Everyone,
No news yet, I will post the outcome as soon as I hear; the good thing is that the therapists are carrying on as if nothing is happening at the moment.
The Hugh difference in being here is that all care and work with you, everyday is a day of moving forward.
We really are going to have to somehow get a place like this for British Columbians to have and use as they should not have to beg or be turned down for rehab or therapy.
It becomes a mindset and a way of life.
It really is a shame that the health minister, who you would think would immerse himself into that system and feel what his job should truly be, thinking more about the people he represents and the wishes of the majority. The way this minister has acted we might as well had an accountant in the position, at least if you are going to cut and gut the system there would be no doubt or false expectations.
I feel confusion from people thinking Chris should not be able to access this help, I am not sure where that comes from, but obviously they have never had to use or require the assistance of the system. Or deal with a government that has total control over every aspect of our lives at this moment in time.
Maybe additional pressure should come to be borne by the minister responsible for ICBC.
As I mentioned before it will be shown the government is responsible for the severity of this accident, the government is responsible for ICBC, the car insurer, (who cannot see that releasing some money to pay for rehab and make it possible for Chris to go home) the health care that we must fight to access(including splinting for legs and hand which we were not allowed to have at SMH we had to fight to bring in an independent orthotics person to do this and then we had to pay not the hospital, is this not mal-practise?), the programs we must access or home care help, as well as the courts and the archaic laws that limit amounts of payments and wording in laws that do not help the victim.
The legal counsel for ICBC will drag it out for as long as possible with the only purpose in being to deny funds to access rehab which in turn limits improvements to Chris’ health. The outcome for severe injuries is usually the victim dies while waiting for the trial. At this point the whole case is shut down and no further action against those responsible, they walk away.
Where is the justice, let’s not forget we the people make up this society we all are a part of, when did someone remove that safety net we feel we are covered by. Only we can change it, our voices have the power, but do we have the commitment?
Bye for now,

Hello Everyone,
The telephone conference has taken place, it cleared up some problems, brought on others, all involved agree the same as before that unless such a facility exists in BC he should be kept put. The exact same information was given to the ministry on November 27, 2009. It has meant five weeks of unrest total chaos in my life and untold stress. We still must wait for a decision.
The problem is not that hard to see, a Government out of touch and not accountable to anyone for its carelessness or off the cuff decisions and comments.
Government is ultimately responsible (to be proven) for the accident leaving the victims in need, they control the insurance, both part 7 medical and liability or tort claim, they control the ability to advance monies for rehab and living expenses, but choose not to, they control the health system which includes rehab, they control access to home care funding for help looking after the injured when they return home, they control the court system and write into law some archaic rules that protect them from (ICBC is a government run insurance company the only one in town) claims and limits those who are covered are going to needed to access.
Like living under state control with no one person or elected official that is accountable?
This is Minister Falcon’s response to my brothers’ letter!
Dear Mr. Bigelow:
Thank you for your email of December 20, 2009, regarding the medical care for your nephew, Dr. Christopher Bigelow, at the Halvar Jonson Centre for Brain Injury (the Centre) in Ponoka, Alberta.
Your email provided an excellent history of your nephew’s medical needs, as he is working diligently to recover from a very serious accident. I can only imagine how important it is for your nephew to have family support for his efforts.
As you can understand, I am not able offer specific details to you about Christopher’s care due to confidentiality reasons; however, I can assure you that any decision about provincial funding for medical treatment at the Centre in Alberta will be directed by the medical recommendations from the attending specialist(s) at the Centre and the specialist(s) in British Columbia. The attending specialist physician at the Centre will discuss medical treatment recommendations with the specialist in British Columbia and if the physicians decide to discharge the patient, the specialist in British Columbia will arrange appropriate transfer for medical treatment to continue in British Columbia. Although the Centre in Ponoka offers a ‘slow stream’ program, similar rehabilitation services are certainly available at hospitals in British Columbia.
I respect that the discussion about your nephew’s care is a very serious concern to you, and assure you that the Ministry of Health Services will review the medical recommendations from the medical professionals before a final decision is made about funding treatment services at the Centre.
Thank you for bringing your concerns to my attention and please accept my sincere best wishes for your nephews improved health in the future.
Sincerely,
Kevin Falcon, Minister
pc: Honourable Gordon Campbell, Premier
Chris’ Uncle’s thoughts on the above:
Never asked for details, just wondered why if all the materials were in fact received by the health ministry then why was funding not extended. Because in fact the decision to extend was made by someone other than Chris’ Alberta doctor and his BC doctor and the medical recommendations from the attending specialist(s) at the Centre and the specialist(s) in British Columbia were never considered in the first place. Hence the need for more information to cover someone’s butt.
I would also ask for particulars of what hospitals in B.C. offer similar rehabilitation services; at least ones that Christopher would be eligible to receive treatment at... i.e. - G.F.Strong is the only facility I am aware of, and we know he would not qualify to get in there... Also, stating treatment is available and approving him for it, are two different things!
If such a place exists why then are those that are looking for it unable to locate it, including the health officials and staff to whom the applications are given to. Why are still more BC residents being transferred to Ponoka?
Hopefully cooler heads prevail in the reconsideration, really would like to have someone consider the facts and what we have been put through. Explaining all the previous decisions is probably too much to ask for.
Until tomorrow or if I hear something sooner,
Goodbye,
Kevin

Hello everyone,
Things are moving fast for Chris, his therapy is awesome it is as if he knew what was going on. John is here with me this week helping out and freeing up some time so I can take care of all the calls and paper work that have to be answered.
More lies and half truths coming from the government I can't share them all just yet at the moment but one arm says one thing and the other contradicts what was said the day before. If this is how they run the rest of the government we better wake up and take stock, before it is too late.
Basically after stating they were waiting for more information from Ponoka, Ponoka said: they did not have any requests from BC for more information.
The only thing BC asked for was that no media or cameras be allowed onto AHS sites which include the facility Chris is in, how convenient. They really think by stopping pictures and stopping the media’s access to Christopher would prevent the story from being told.
Ever get the feeling we live in a dictatorship and not a democracy? Thought we had freedom of speech in this Country?
Ponoka in fact has said we're not sending anything else, as it was all sent.
Everyone from the sending end knows the doctor’s reports from both Alberta and BC as well as the physio therapist reports to show Christopher's progress were iin fact received by the health ministry.
You all have read part of those reports on the blog.
It is strange they cannot understand what was written by the health care providers the first time.
I had my ten year old read the letters and even she can understand what is being said. Wonder how they would make out on "Are you smarter than a fifth grader".
BC's earlier comment on CBC Radio AM 690 was that this families expectations are unrealistic wanting him to walk and practise medicine again. Something I have never said or asked for I might add.
Quite an extraordinary comments seeing as how I have never talked to anyone from the health ministry as they would not talk to me or return calls.
Maybe that is the trouble with government in health care, they already know what we want and need without asking us?
This I quote, from the last twist or spin depending how you look at it is:
“The Ministry of Health Services recognizes the desires of Dr. Bigelow’s friends and family that he continues to receive the best care possible. As we have done over the last two years, the ministry will continue to support the best plan of care for Dr. Bigelow based on the expert advice and recommendations of his health professionals in Alberta and in B.C".
Dr. Bigelow’s physicians are meeting on January 11th to discuss his ongoing needs. We are guided solely by their professional advice.”

Letter below had already been sent to the ministry November 27, 2009 and then they proceed to put us through all of this to just have it done again. To what end, for what gain or was it to just blow the wind from our sails and demoralize us or is it just bullying?

Re: Dr. Bigelow, Chris
Dear Ms. Cave
As you know, Dr. Bigelow sustained a traumatic brain and in a motor vehicle accident on November 3, 2007. At this time Dr. Bigelow is in Halvar Jonson Center for brain injury in Ponoka Alberta. I am writing this letter to support Dr. Bigelow's extended stay in Ponoka, Alberta. He is receiving aggressive rehabilitation for his traumatic brain injury and, according to his treating physiatrist, has made moderate gains in his functional status. Based on these gains, which have translated into functional improvements by all accounts, I would fully recommend an extended stay at the Halvar Jonson Center.
Sincerely,
J Diggle, BSc, CSCN, MD, FRCPC
Neurology Surrey Memorial Hospital
The response from the ministry that has said repeatedly they had not made a decision on his return and were awaiting further information from Ponoka and I quote:
“Reference is made your November 27, 2009 letter regarding Christopher Bigelow's continued treatment at the Halvar Jonson Center for brain injury in Ponoka Alberta. Authorization is granted for payment of benefits for Dr. Bigelow's admission until January 15, 2010 to allow time for planning his return to a facility in BC.”
We already know they will not accept the advice and recommendations of the Alberta health professionals because they are not from BC. (This seems to be only in Christopher’s case)
Let’s remember that these people who practise medicine in Alberta are Canadians just as much as we are. These are professionals as much as any other in this country of ours and they have the Halvar Jonson Center for brain injury. They treat patients from all over Canada because those health regions and governments chose not or did not have the foresight to see the need or understand the injury or how to go about treating it effectively.
Sorry but you just cannot spin your way out of these truths.
I am too tired to go on any more this evening.
Bye for another eventful day,
Kevin

Bye for another eventful day,
Kevin
