Good morning,
The response from the ministry regarding the order to bring Chris home and stating that with all the work that will be required by Dr Bigelows family and Dr. D, he should start making the arrangements to bring him back to BC, they go on to say they will allow us until February 15, 2010 allowing us 3 1/2 weeks to make it all happen.
I will elaborate more on this once I have the original report forwarded to the ministry of health that was written after consultation with both the Alberta doctor, BC doctor and Christopher's physio therapist.
I can tell you that the response from the ministry was never sent to me, just to Dr D. I had to call Dr D. to get a copy.
But they went out and forwarded copies to the defence attorney for the province who is defending them in this case.
I could be wrong but I am sure the minister of health told all including family members he responded to that he could not share any information with them as it was confidential.
But apparently informing the defence attorney and not the family is OK. Makes you wonder how many cases involving the government/ICBC are sharing confidential information. With that said how does this not jeopardise any cases or actions they are involved in.
More of a dictatorship than I thought possible, if the minister of health is Ok with it, the Premier and possibly the minister of ICBC is ok with it too.
So the way I see it if you are injured in our province the ministries involved share all your information without your knowledge and effectively alter the outcome of the trial, is this justice in our great country of Canada ? Pretty hard to deny when you are caught with your fingers all over and in the cookie jar!
Strange how a relatively ordinary person (most politicians) suddenly transferred to position of power, often leads them to exaggerate and prevaricate, all in the name of a supposedly greater good and sometimes just because they feel their position allows this.
I am still waiting on the last letter before I can tell you more regarding the ministries latest decision. The decision that was made was done without referring to the medical and professional advice of Christopher’s doctors in Alberta and BC. More like it was written before the last meeting took place, they just held it and extra week before sending it only to Dr. D, oh and of course the defence attorney circumventing the system because we all know that if you are in government the current laws do not apply to you. Makes me wonder even more was this so he could share with the other defendants lawyers? What is even more disturbing is that the government controls the courts and the archaic laws that still exist in personal injury.
With a little more work we may be able to do a news update to the antics of our health minister’s refusal to step in and make it right.
Hope to have updates on the rest by the end of today.
Bye for now,
Kevin

Hi Chris, Shelley, Scott, Kylan and Gwen.
I hope you are having an excellent weekend together!
Love,
Uncle Larry
Hi,
Just happened across your blog via an email forward from a friend. My brother was also in an accident that resulted in TBI October 27th, 2007. It really is great to see the progress and support that you have all given to your friend. My brother spend 3 months in a coma, on a ventilator, with a trach and a feeding tube. He then moved out of the ICU (after the family was told he would never wake up, mind you) and was at LGH for more than a year. He now lives in his own apartment with caregivers 24/7, speaks sporatically (but emphatically) when he wants to. Eats normally (though mostly shakes as he seems to not care for anything he has to chew), walks mostly unassisted and really motors when he just has had enough of whatever he has been doing. Have faith, because between the legal battles and wrangling, Dr. Bigelow is surely going to improve by leaps and bounds with the caring group that obviously surrounds him. Much positivity his way,
Cheers,
Janine

How inspiring! It is stories like your brother's that make families persevere and fight for all that is possible!
Dr Chris and family please know that there are many more people out here than you imagine rooting for your recovery. Through networking and telling as many people as possible about the state of Brain Injury Rehab maybe we can make some positive changes.
Keep up the good work!
